I Believe in Fictional Characters

by Chelsea Kruse

I believe in fictional characters. I have learned many lessons from them over the years. I have learned more from these fictional characters about life than anything I learned in school.

I was taught that friendship has no boundaries by Legolas and Gimli who didn’t see race as an obstacle. Peter Pan and Tink taught me that I’ll always be a kid at heart and imagination doesn’t stop at a certain age. Prince Zuko taught me that being scarred on the outside doesn’t mean being scarred on the inside.

According to Harry, Ron and Hermione to be a true friend you always have your friends’ backs no matter what. They showed me that magic really does exist and to sacrifice yourself for friends, even enemies, as it is the highest form of love there is.

Katniss Everdeen taught me to fight back even when you are broken and the whole world is against you. There is always hope even when it appears there is not. To fight for the ones I love. That it’s ok to be afraid and you are stronger than you think.

Tris and Four, Katniss and Peeta, Gatsby and Daisy, Eragon and Arya, Rhi Bran and Merian are examples of true love. That it’s not always pretty and doesn’t always work out but it’s worth it.

Katniss, Maximum Ride, Tris, Harry, and Aang have shown me that it’s good to be different. To be brave and take risks.

Harry, Eragon, and Percy taught me that we make our own path in life.

All of these people have taught me never to give up and have shaped my beliefs.  Everyday when I’m thinking about choices and what to do with my life and what my future choices should be, these characters are always on my mind. Whenever I just need to “visit” with certain characters, their books are not far from hand. Fictional characters have been there every step of the way in this adventure titled Life.
